Fall has hit Edmonton early this year and we’re already getting those back-to-school vibes. I can hardly believe that 2018 only has another 4 months left. With the busyness of the summer coming to an end, I’m able to refocus and come back to my intentions. While I’m not looking forward to the cold, I do love getting back into a routine
Since I love getting public about my intentions, here they are:
1. Scroll Less
I don’t know about you, but I scroll too much. Anddd, it makes me feel so gross. I feel like I’m just wasting my life away.
It’s a habit I have been trying to ditch since the New Year, and I’m realizing how deep the habit runs. It’s like an automatic programming.
I feel like the more I scroll, the worse I feel about my life. I know you guys can relate to that.
I recently unfollowed accounts on my main channel to stop the scroll, but I still find a way around it. I’m definitely going to have to get more creative when it comes to ways to curb this not so awesome habit.
I’d love to hear any advice you have! Feel free to comment at the bottom of this blog post.
2. Launch DiveThru & Give It Everything I Have
DiveThru is in beta testing and will be launching in late September. I’m feeling all of the things about it, but I’m very excited. It’s something I’m so incredibly passionate about and cannot wait to bring it into the world.
That being said, it makes me super uncomfortable. But, I know it’s something the world needs. My intention for the rest of the year is to spread the awareness of it.
3. Read Read Read
I have been reading more lately and absolutely love it. I used to be obsessed with self-help books but felt like I was always desperately looking for something. I felt like I’d read something and finally be full. After my own journaling, I realized I don’t need to reach outside of myself to be whole. After that, I had no interest in reading self-help books.
But, lately, I have gotten into fiction, specifically young adult fiction. I started again with Harry Potter and have been loving To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before. I’m not sure what it is about the YA genre, but it’s awesome. They’re so easy to read and the stories warm my heart.
Reading makes me feel so good. I feel so accomplished when I finish a book. Reading has been known to reduce stress, so it makes sense.
I would love any book recommendations you have. Feel free to comment below!
4. Rest Rest Rest
As I mentioned, summer’s are busy. And, this is summer we have been none stop. It’s been great but I haven’t been taking a lot of time to rest. For that reason, I haven’t been taking time for myself. I’m wanting to focus on rest for the remainder of the year.
I find that when I don’t take at least one day off on the weekend, I’m not as productive for the following week.
The ways I’m going to make time for rest will be getting to bed on time (which is suuppppper difficult for me), taking relaxing baths and continuing my DiveThru practice.
One way I’m going to focus on rest is actual sleeping. I joke that Riley sleep shames me because of the amount of sleep I need. I feel like I could sleep for 12 hours and still be tired. I’m going to ensure I’m getting to bed at a decent time which is incredibly hard for me.
Last winter I was obsessed with baths. While it’s been too hot to enjoy them, they were incredibly relaxing, and I miss that. I’m going to incorporate a weekly bath back into my routine.
Another way I’ll focus on rest is
5. Reach For More Nutrient Dense Foods
I feel like my diet has been made up of a lot of party foods. Like I said, this summer has been busy and it’s been busy with a lot of amazing parties and gatherings.
I’m pretty sure I’m 96% potato chip. Which, I don’t totally mind. Potatoes are vegetable. Ahaha, I think I’m soooo funny.
Riley and I have been eating out so much that I’m really looking to focus on making my own lunches. I work out of a co-working office now and need to put concentrated effort into packing a lunch.
I left salad out of my diet for years as it was a trigger food for me. Lately, it’s felt alright to let it back in my diet. My go-to has been spring mix with sliced oranges, radishes, blackberries, hemp seeds, sunflower seeds and a Italian dressing. It makes me feel theeee healthiest.
Another way I’m increasing the nutrient dense foods in my life is through bone broth. Since it gets hella cold here, it will not only be super healthy, but super warming, too. You know those wet winter days where your body just feels absolutely chilled? Yah, those are the days I’ll be reaching for some bone broth. My go-to brand for bone broth is Vital Proteins – I love all their collagen products! I wrote a blog about the benefits of collagen which you can find here.
What I love about Vital Protein’s Bone Broth is that it comes in a powder that you can add to all your favorite dishes or drinks. You can easily incorporate bone broth into warm stews, soups and sauces, but you don’t have to just use it for cooking, you can also drink it like it’s a cup of tea. The powder dissolves quickly so you’re not left with any chunky residue and the taste is neutral enough to be enjoyable – it takes like I’m drinking a warm cup of soup broth!
Bone Broth is so amazing – it supports joint and ligament health, promotes a healthy immune system and digestive system (and we all know I’ve struggled with my digestion)! There are a lot of garbage brands out there, but VP is MSG free which is the life I am all about.
6. Deepen My DiveThru Practice
While I have consistently journaled morning and night for over 6 months, I have kept things very surface level as of late.
With the return to routine, I want to deepen my journaling again. This means I’ll be digging deeper into the experiences I’m facing and work through whatever’s coming up for me. I’m also going to be seeing my psychologist month for maintenance. (In case you didn’t know, there’s no shame in seeking for outside help).
I’m in a place where I’m not goal focused, specifically when it comes to my body. Yet, these intentions feel really solid to me and I look forward to committing myself to them over these next few months.
I’d love to know, what are your intentions for the rest of the year?
